On 20 April 2017, Guardian Council announced a list of 6 approved candidates. The list is contains incumbent president Hassan Rouhani, Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri, Astan Quds Razavi chairman Ebrahim Raisi, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Mostafa Mir-Salim and Mostafa Hashemitaba. Presidential elections are scheduled to be held in Iran on 19 May 2017. It will be the twelfth presidential election in Iran. Iran is a major player in the Middle East. Because of its nuclear program and support for the Shia-led governments in Iraq and Syria, world powers see Tehran both as part of the problem and the solution to the region’s woes. Last night Hassan Rohani attended the first gathering in his election rally in Tehran to greet the supporters and deliver his speech.
