Walking on a Blade, Recipient of the Pulitzer Fund
NVP Images is proud to announce that the project Walking on a Blade has become the recipient of the Pulitzer Fund from prestigious Pulitzer Center in June 2020. Walking on the Blade was born from the creativity and effort of tenacious and talented photographers who succeeded in telling a story in a real and yet touching way through their frames. The Pulitzer Center raises awareness of underreported global issues through direct support for quality journalism and a unique program of education and public outreach.
This project aimed to highlight Iranian’s challenges in providing for their families after the outbreak of COVID-19. With Pooyan Tabatabaei as the head of the project, guiding and running the show, the project had the perfect opportunity to send its core message to the world, which was how Iranian providers put their lives at risk for the sake of their families.
Due to the bizarre and unstable economic circumstances in Iran, a large number of families earning daily salaries still had to work outside despite all the risks of virus exposure. Such conditions got aggravated when many businesses declared bankruptcy during the first few waves of the spreading virus. Consequently, they took risks and walked through the fire.
Their struggles with day-to-day life and the constant infection possibility became the subject of NVP photographers. Walking on a Blade portrays this subject in five different Iranian provinces, including occupations such as millers, hairstylists, street musicians and performers. The striking reality embedded in the pictures left the Pulitzer Center committee in awe to the point they had no choice but to fund the project.
The success is truly remarkable. Nevertheless, projects such as Walking on Blade follow a purpose; an aspiration for a better tomorrow where no one has to risk their lives in any conditions for fear of starvation. NVP Images aspire to stay vigilant of such essential global issues and to use the art of photography to make the world a better place for everyone.
